Hello. I’ve been trying to solve the jewelry blackening issue for quite some time. I picked up the material of ordinary gold, which looks great, but when I try to add blackening, the shade of the metal changes and the shine disappears. Help please
I am attaching my version of the material
I downloaded a ring from GrabCad.com created by
tecnojoyas to try to achieve the same.
I think my material setup is a bit easier to tweak/control to your likings. I think the ‘black’ is just a kind of oxide (but not really since it’s gold) layer which can wear off pretty easily (well, what I just read about the internet).
Being such a layer I think it does have a bit less gloss than pure gold but you can tweak the roughness both on the gold or the layer.

What I did was to use the default gold and since it’s some kind of anodized layer I used an customized anodized layer as the label.
Like your material I based the opacity on the occlusion and added an invert and adjustment to have some tweaking options of the opacity. The actual color/roughness of the anodized material I just tweaked a bit with the settings and you can easily get it darker or less dark using the sliders.
I’m by no means a jewellery expert but maybe this helps you a bit.
